Attenton all Members!! The Sierra Club is attempting to shut down Trans Alta steam plant. They will be holding a rally at Olympia at 12:00 noon 02/27/10 The Boilermakers will also be there in support of the familys of the 300 plus workers at the Centralia steam plant. We will also be the to support the Centralia community which would be devastated by the lost jobs. Trans Alta steam plant provides Washington state with 400 Billion dollars of revenue each year from jobs and business. What would this do to the state economy if the plant was forced to close? Anyone with common sense knows that wind turbines Do Not provide long term jobs. Wind turbines only provide work jobs during construction. The manufracturer will do all repairs with traveling crews. The state and community will not receive any type of benefit from workers or income received. The average Washington state voter Does Not know that the utilities can charge 1.25 times the rates of useage for the wind power on top of the current fluctuating rates.
The Repair work at Trans Alta provides 300 Boilermakers with at least one third of their income each year. Any closeure would also be a draw on the Strained Unemployment system.
Clean Coal technology was cut short in state legislation and changed so carbon capture sequestation would not be an option. Sierra Club again!
NOW IS THE TIME TO STAND UP AND BE HEARD. IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO HEAR US, WE WILL TAKE ACTION IN THE POLLS AGAINST THOSE NOT IN FAVOR OF JOBS AND CLEAN COAL TECHNOLOGY!!
